3 styling tips for better dancing
1. Respond to music
Be a reflexive dancer and not an overtly rehearsed one. Listen to the music, pick out the beat and take a shuffle step with each beat of music. Walking a call instead of dancing a call does not look good, throws your timing off, affects the timing of the entire square and results in an uncomfortable dance feeling. So, dance reflexively and intuitively.
2. Be aware of your position
When dancing in a group or as a part of a choreographed sequence, you must stay aware of the position you are in before you start a sequence and right after you complete the execution of a sequence. This aids you in performing the next sequence correctly.
3. Ladies, skirt it right!
While dancing, ladies must hold their skirts in their free hand about waist high and use a very slightly rhythmical flourish to move the skirt in front and back. Remember, your right hand moves with your left foot, and your left hand moves with your right foot. This rule when not followed makes the twirl look graceless and out of place.

Control your landing while taking a leap
Looking up takes care of the grace and the style you must possess while taking a leap. But there is a tad bit more to performing a perfect leap- that is the landing. You must look comfortable and should not look jittery or should not fall down while landing. After all, a leap is not complete until it is landed safely.
Here again, your goal for the landing should be to hit the floor as softly and quietly as possible. Never come out of a leap with straight knees, as doing so will almost always cause an injury and will lead to a messy landing, probably even a fall. You should begin thinking about your landing as soon as your feet leave the ground. Mentally preparing your legs to absorb your weight will really make a difference. Also, remember not to curl your toes while landing.

Leap like a professional dancer
Yes, leaps are not a part of dancing at a club. But when it comes to professional dancing, leaps form a great part of a performance and can provide that extra thrill to it. Professional dancers seamlessly soar through the air when they leap. Some people of course have a natural ability for leaping, whereas others have to work at it a little harder. Most leaps in dance require tremendous strength and coordination to execute correctly. Here is a simple tip that can add a lot of charm to your leap:
Look Up
As you go into your leap, don’t forget to look up as this will help the rest of your body to follow. Looking down will keep you low to the ground and will make you look like you are slouching. As you approach your leap, fix your gaze on a high spot in the distance and jump to reach that spot, keeping your eyes fixed there. This not only allows you to jump higher, but also makes for a prettier, more graceful leap.

Relax and dance
That’s right. The best way to dance is to dance in a relaxed state of mind and body. Take a few deep breaths and clear your mind. Teach yourself to unwind to the music and your body will automatically perform well in tune with the music. If you are too tensed about following the right steps, right place, right co-ordination and so on, the stress thus generated will ruin the performance, at best making it seem like a wonderfully co-ordinated performance, yet lifeless and plastic.
Hence, it’s important that you be relaxed and confident on the dance floor. Remember, that you are there to enjoy and have a blast. Do not put unnecessary pressure on yourself as that will culminate into stress and leave you seeming ungraceful and contrived. After all, you don’t want to look like a puppet rising the feet and the hands at the right time in unison, but without any grace.
